*Advertising Nautical miles and years slide by, but the feel of an anchorage sticks with me. This one (Amorgos, Shipwreck Bay) was very challenging.... and breathtaking! The Cyclades archipelago has 250 islands, 24 of which are inhabited for our greatest pleasure.... Mooring in most of the places is “stern to” with mooring lines or anchor at the bow. You can also enjoy “free-swinging” in idyllic, secluded bays, with or without long-lines ashore. The weather in the Cyclades is warm in summer with varying winds, which can become strong when the Meltemi hits. Meltemi winds have an average strength of 4-5 Beaufort Scale. However, they can reach 5-7 (sometimes even 8) Beaufort Scale. That’s pretty high! However, they are at their natural “worst” in July and August. How to find a peaceful anchorage!
